In Lieu of Flwrz: A Queer Hip Hop Musical Exploring Accountability, Love, and Grief

Fans of musicals will be happy to know there’s a lovely new body of work available called in lieu of flwrz. Written and performed by MC and Playwright Miki Vale, the musical touches on the subject of a challenging relationship between two lovers that goes south after one of them cheats.

in lieu of flwrz: a hip hop musical is about the rise and fall of a romantic relationship between two Black women: Grace and Shay. The lovers contend with the death of their relationship after Shay cheats, and both are forced to wrestle with their sense of agency and accountability, especially in the context of generational cycles of abuse. The story is told through dance, and narrated by songs written and performed by Miki Vale.

In lieu of flwrz completed a number of shows in San Diego earlier this year before giving fans the opportunity to purchase a physical copy of the in lieu of flwrz book.
