LA Artist Lauren Halsey Opens ‘Sister Dreamer’ Sculpture Garden Amplifying the Culture of South Central Los Angeles

Being a keeper of the culture is an honor and having an artist like Lauren Halsey amplifying the culture in LA is powerful.

In March 2026, Los Angeles based artist Lauren Halsey her project Sister Dreamer which was 17 years in the making. Sister Dreamer is an “architectural ode to tha surge n splurge of South Central Los Angeles“.

The one of a kind sculpture garden features a number of Egyptian inspired structures with a modern element of Afrofuturism and African American culture, celebrating “hyperlocal” heroes and activist. There’s also an architectural cube centrally located in the exhibit that serves as a memorial honoring the victims of local serial killer “Grim Sleeper” who took a number of Black women’s lives in LA.

The exhibit opened on March 14th at the corner of 76th Street and Western Avenue where Halsey spoke about the project being a space to bring community together.

“I’m overjoyed that ‘sister dreamer’ is finally open,” Halsey told the LA Sentinel. “I’m excited to witness the collective gatherings, creative exchanges, educational initiatives and celebrations that will unfold during the 18 months it’ll be open.”
